Byron Sago, better known as Pastor B, is a man on a mission. Raised in Natchez, Mississippi, he graduated from Natchez High School in 1993 and enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1997, where he served for over 23 years. But Pastor B’s calling was not just to serve his country, but also to serve his community through music and ministry. As the founder and pastor of Light Of Hope Fellowship Ministries in Harker Heights, Texas, Pastor B has been spreading the message of Discipleship and “Taking God’s Word To The Streets” for years. But it’s his music that has really caught my attention.

Pastor B began studio recording in 2005 with the group G Playaz, who released 5 studio albums. But it wasn’t until his solo debut, “Proverbs and Pushup Vol 1,” in 2021 that he really started to make waves. Since then, he has released “Proverbs and Pushups Vol 2” and a number of singles, with “Proverbs and Pushups Vol 3” set to drop this summer.

But it’s his latest single, “Life Is What You Make It,” that really showcases Pastor B’s talent and vision. Featuring King Marino, the track is an uplifting anthem that speaks to the struggles of everyday life while also offering a message of hope and perseverance. Pastor B’s lyrics are both introspective and inspiring, encouraging listeners to take control of their lives and work towards a better future.

What sets Pastor B apart from other artists in the genre is his unwavering commitment to faith and positivity. While many hip-hop artists focus on the darker side of life, Pastor B seeks to uplift and inspire his listeners. He understands the trenches of societal and cultural failure, but he always keeps one eye to the sky, reminding us that there is always hope for a better tomorrow.

It’s clear that Pastor B has a lot to offer, and it’s time for the world to take notice. “Life Is What You Make It” ft. King Marino, is a powerful and uplifting track. The song is centered on the idea that life is in our hands and we have the power to make it what we want it to be. The lyrics encourage the listener to take control of their life and to pursue their dreams and aspirations.

The opening lines of the song, “You know life is what you make it, you just got to go out there and take it”, immediately set the tone for the rest of the track. Pastor B is emphasizing that we are responsible for our own happiness and success. He encourages his listeners to be proactive and to seize opportunities when they arise.

The track clearly shows that Pastor B is a man of faith, and his lyrics reflect his beliefs. He goes on to emphasize that his focus is on love, not hatred, and that his formula for success is faith plus work. The line “Getting knocked down and staying down. That’s crazy”, highlights the importance of resilience and the need to bounce back from setbacks. Pastor B acknowledges that life can be tough and that we will face challenges, but we must keep going.

Throughout the track, Pastor B makes reference to his faith and his belief in God. He emphasizes the importance of keeping faith in Christ, and how it helps him maintain a positive outlook on life. He speaks of God’s presence in his own life, and this imagery portrays a sense of euphoria and a feeling of being on top of the world, which is a powerful metaphor for the strength that faith can provide.

There are lyrical lines that highlight Pastor B’s positive attitude towards adversity, as he encourages his listeners to turn their pain into something positive, and to cut off negative influences in their life. Pastor B’s flow is steady and effortless. His wordplay descriptive and crystal-clear, while King Marino’s soulful melodic croon offers the perfect contrast to Pastor B’s inspirational raps.
