Jiwon was born in New York City and grew up in a diverse musical environment. His father loved bands like The Clash, and his mother emphasized classical training. Proficient in piano, cello, bass guitar, and drums, Jiwon found music to be his expressive refuge. His style, inspired by artists like Lou Reed and Jai Paul, is an eclectic mix that defies easy categorization.
While studying philosophy at Harvard, he deepened his commitment to music. During the pandemic, a major label’s interest affirmed his career choice. Jiwon’s debut album, “Album 1,” released in April 2023, received critical acclaim for its introspective and authentic sound. As he continues to innovate, Jiwon remains dedicated to his craft, distinguishing himself with genuine passion and sincerity in a crowded musical landscape.
“Sunshine” is another indie-pop hit from NYC-based Jiwon. He is self-taught, self-produced, and writes all his own music. With features in Flaunt, Kaltblut, Earmilk, Grimy Goods, radio play on over 10 alternative stations, charting on the NACC charts, and over 500k streams in total, people are starting to take notice of this newcomer.
“I wrote this track my junior year of college. I was pretty miserable, so I wanted to make something that I could bump on the way to class and not feel super depressed. I love how I made it one night (pre-mixing) so it felt very spontaneous and fun. It’s a reminder to not take things too seriously, so I hope people can enjoy it for that.” – Jiwon
“Sunshine” is out everywhere.
