Tableek – “Black Jack” ft. Boogie Fields

Tableek, whose name derives from the Arabic word meaning “to take someone from darkness and bring them toward truth,” embodies a mission of enlightenment through music. Born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Springfield, MA, his life and artistry reflect over two decades of perseverance, growth, and unflinching dedication to hip-hop. Tableek’s journey began in the early 1990s with the formation of Maspyke, a hip-hop trio comprised of Tableek, his cousin DJ Roddy Rod, and close family friend Hanif Jamiyl.

Their foundation was rooted in a shared passion for music and a mutual drive to create. After recording a three-song demo featuring tracks like “5 Fingers,” “Showtime,” and “Over Achiever,” the group stepped into the studio of local producer Allstar. It was here that a chance encounter with hip-hop legend Doug E. Fresh became a pivotal moment, providing a surge of confidence and a glimpse into the possibilities of their craft.

This momentum led Maspyke to a production deal with Elektra/Head Up Records, a deal that opened doors to collaborations with celebrated artists such as Chante Moore, UK jazz guitarist Ronny Jordan, and, of course, Doug E. Fresh. The highlight of this era included Roddy Rod’s remix of Chante Moore’s “This Time” and other groundbreaking records. Despite these successes, the unpredictable nature of the music industry became evident when a shakeup at the label left the group in limbo. Rather than waiting for uncertain opportunities, Maspyke made a bold decision to leave the corporate music machine behind and embrace the creative freedom of independence.

Throughout his career, Tableek has drawn inspiration from a wide range of musical genres. While hip-hop remains the cornerstone of his artistry, his influences also span R&B, African American classical music, soulful house, rock, and even punk rock. These eclectic influences fuel his creative fire, allowing him to push boundaries while staying true to the authentic spirit of hip-hop.

For Tableek, music is more than just a profession—it’s a way of life and a mission. Whether working as an independent artist or as one-third of Maspyke, he continues to contribute to hip-hop with a steadfast belief in its power to inspire and uplift.

As the 21st century unfolds, Tableek remains committed to his mission of creating meaningful music. His journey from Brooklyn to Springfield, from a major label deal to independence, and from darkness to light, mirrors the very essence of his name. Tableek’s story is a testament to the resilience and enduring spirit of an artist determined to share his truth with the world, one beat and one rhyme at a time. Tableek is on Toneflame Urban Radio rotation with the track “Black Jack.”
