Fascinated by music from a very young age, Cenaan Kelley, better known as Bo Blitz, is an up-and-coming hip-hop artist from the San Francisco area. Inspired by his brother’s rapping and the lifestyle of performing at talent shows, parties and other events in his community, persuaded Bo to seriously focus his skills on the game. He was so taken by his craft that for his senior year high school project, he recorded a full-blown CD with his own beats. The good grade received for his effort, only helped to motivate him more. And he has since been on his grind. Bo Blitz’s latest release is the single “Girl of My Dreams” taken straight off his EP called “Spooky Action at a Distance”.
Independent. Visionary. Timeless. These may be e very big hype-sounding words, but are just the right ones to describe Bo Blitz’s creative style and the lane which he is busy carving out for himself in the hip-hop culture.
Bo Blitz works his trade between blending reality raps and fantasy linguistic experiments. On “Girl of My Dreams” he does both, weaving a surprising tale of unrequited love with a twist in its tail. In fact the video clip cleverly builds on that narrative and unfolds in a most peculiar way.
Total unlike the hordes of ordinary hip-hop visuals filling up the media platforms. It’s an unorthodox approach, but Bo Blitz doesn’t seem to be one much for orthodoxy. And it works on two counts – it affirms and elaborates the song’s story-line, and secondly it makes him stand out from the crowd.
Unrequited love may be a theme as old as time itself, but Bo Blitz makes it his goal to stretch this topic well past its logical extremes through a sheer love for the elasticity of language, and desire to unravel life’s complexities. “Girl of My Dreams” is a power-packing track song which also sets the pace for the rest of the “Spooky Action at a Distance” EP.
It sounds like the Bay Area artist is driven, and rapping with a purpose, rather than just going through the motions. With songs like “Get At Me” and “Come On”, the rest of EP is essentially proof that Bo Blitz knows how to craft banger after banger successfully, without ever boring the listener.
Checking out tracks like “Ha Ha” and “Take Me”, what comes to the fore most notably, is Bo Blitz’s flow and (especially) his diction which is precise, showing the listener that he possesses all the keys to making a strong project. “Spooky Action at a Distance” is technically and stylistically perfect.
Bo Blitz knocks down quick similes, clever metaphors, multi-syllabic rhymes and some of the best rapid fire delivery we’ve heard in years. It is relentless—just when you think he’s done, he brings the verbal thunder and lightning right back again and again. All throughout, Bo Blitz is confident, clear, honest and rapping at an extremely high caliber on every turn.
