A new record label’s first release is its mission statement. It’s the opening shot. For the brand-new Red Set Records, that shot was fired on April 11, 2025, with the launch of “BAUOW,” a five-minute and six-second declaration of intent from their inaugural artist, ANDRÉUS. This isn’t just a debut – it’s a foundation stone for a label that aims to push innovative projects forward with fresh talent. Hailing from Olney, Maryland, ANDRÉUS has delivered a track that serves as the label’s audacious, bass-heavy hello to the world.
“BAUOW” itself is a carefully constructed paradox. ANDRÉUS specified his goal was to create something with “a bit of intensity, but also surreal,” and the track lives in that tension. It’s his first dedicated dive into pure dubstep with color bass, a subgenre that bleeds melody into aggression. You can hear the ghosts of his influences in the machine—the high-energy melodicism of “Turn It Up – Slushii & Affinity VIP” and the intricate, emotional weight of “Stay” by TYNAN and Ace Aura are woven into its DNA. The track is more of an environment – it builds a space with ethereal pads only to demolish it with meticulously designed, crushing basslines before patiently rebuilding it again. It’s the sound of controlled chaos.
The source code for that chaos can be traced back to a living room floor and a video game. The track’s rhythmic backbone began forming when ANDRÉUS was just seven, hammering on a plastic drum kit while playing Rock Band with his brothers. That initial spark of percussive intrigue was later doused in gasoline when his older brother introduced him to Skrillex. For ANDRÉUS, it was a moment of pure disbelief. “I didn’t know how those sounds could even be made,” he recalls. That question—how is this possible?—became a driving force. The answer arrived via his drum instructor, Tarek, who put the tools of creation directly into his hands by introducing him to Native Instruments Maschine. The puzzle box was open.
The road to “BAUOW” was paved with years of experimentation. His discography started with his 2020 tracks “Anyone” and “Beyond”. In 2021, he proved he could connect with listeners on a larger scale with “Passenger 7,” a track that pulled in over 17,000 streams on Spotify alone. The “Showdown” EP in 2022 showed a more refined and confident artist honing his craft. The nearly three-year silence that followed was not a break, but an incubation period. The result is a track that feels like a culmination of that entire journey—from the rhythmic fun of a video game to the complex architecture of a festival-ready weapon. The signal has been sent from Maryland to the rest of the world, and its message is loud, clear, and drenched in bass. The only thing left to do is listen.
