Twizm Whyte Piece Aka T.w.p. is a multi-award-winning artist and performer who once was a gang member selling guns and drugs, while spiraling towards addiction, shootings and prison. The artist who found the strength to motivate himself and defeat his demons is now a lauded independent and self-managed recording artist. Twizm has released a ton of acclaimed music and accumulated a plethora of awards and citations. His latest release is the 10 song album “2020Twizm”. As someone who has closely followed and written about Twizm Whyte Piece, what drew me and so many others to him initially was his willingness to be brutally honest while writing thoughtful, introspective lyrics that were not only relatable, but sounded great.
“2020Twizm” is a huge album for a lot of reasons. Firstly, it just is a lot of good music. Sound-wise, I don’t think that Twizm wanted to break any new ground. If you liked the way he sounded before, well, then you’re in luck, because he sounds pretty much the same. He just does what he does with even more precision and intricacy.
What really kept me engaged from start to finish on this record are once again the lyrics. Twizm Whyte Piece is being as real as he has ever been on “2020Twizm”, and the power of his personal narrative is enough to draw anyone interested in his story through the album.
The opening tracks like “2020Twizm”, “OverDose”, “HeatWave”, “Amore,” and “Oh My God” all cover substantial ground, and Twizm absolutely torches his bars along the way. But this album is so honest and sounds so incredible with a variety of sonic flavors being introduced, that there isn’t a single track I would tell you to skip.
“2020Twizm” hits hard and cuts deep, and being the artist’s 15th album release, proves that there can be continued light at the end of any tunnel. A great beat, a catchy hook, flawless flow changes, and some amazing lyricism, are only some of the elements that make Twizm Whyte Piece entertaining.
Moving forward, we encounter back to back show stoppers like “Code Red”, “True Stoner” and “White Flag”. Here Twizm shows us that he can rap vehemently and skillfully, write at the top level, and oh by the way: that he can sing too, just to top it all off.
He pours his heart out on these tracks, allowing listeners to join in his own personal journey. The longtime married artist, and father of 5 shares the story of his kids and wife on “My Children”, before closing the album with the abrasive bang of “Le Rois”.
Aside from strong lyrical and thematic quality, Twizm Whyte Piece displays remarkable growth musically as well. Each song is beautifully crafted, with theatrical music. His rapping has become even more complex and intense at the same time. “2020Twizm” is well rounded and has an addicting sound.
It may be very difficult for Twizm to top it with his next one, but I will be very eager to see him try. In the meantime though, he’s left us with a great piece of work to process and enjoy. Twizm Whyte Piece has definitely taken another big step on his road to becoming one of the premier rappers in the underground business.
