Henny – ‘Rosé’

Inspired by the likes of Lil Wayne, Kayne, Eminem, 2 Chainz, Polo G, Tee Grizzley, Kendrick, J. Cole, 50 Cent, among others, 22-year-old independent artist Henny, hails from the small town of Portsmouth, Ohio. “I’m not in this for the money or the luxury. To me music is all about influences and the ability to creatively express yourself in a way that not only one or two people could understand but something a magnitude of people could relate to,” explains Henny. “It’s all about having the ability to positively influence someone’s life without ever having to be in their life.”

If you’re anything like me and partial to the lyrical stylings in some of the new wave rappers aesthetics as a whole, then Henny’s track ‘Rosé’ will not disappoint. In fact, it will impress. His signature rhymes and dark rugged production are present and if I’m honest it’s one of the best of Henny’s releases to date. The minute the resonant pianos kick in on the opening bars, you already know this is going be some real gritty rap with an attitude.

“It’s just one of those days. Roll up the L an pop the rosé. Im tryna get rich an you went the broke way. This bad ass bitch an she like to roleplay. You get held accountable for what your bro say. So if he speaking up you both gon pay. Don’t try me it’s been a long ass day. .40 by my side boy don’t look at me the wrong way,” spits Henny, as he unpacks his brash attitude. The song’s got a really enticing structure, and everything’s just so well done that you can’t help but love it.

What I appreciate about Henny is that he likes to double down, triple down, and quadruple down on his lyricism and flow. He cuts through the beat with a steady, confident cadence. His raw delivery is endlessly listenable, and he lands every single bar, carrying the track on his voice alone.

The lyrical content may not be anything new, revolving around the familiar confrontational topics, but it’s the way that Henny executes his verses that breathes new life into them.

Henny comes through with a batch of exceptional verses, flawlessly highlighted by the production which leaves plenty of room for his unfiltered lyrical ruminations. Each bar is specifically crafted, and intended to give context to every rhyme that may sound threateningly graphic.

Penmanship is elite with every word being hand-selected to bring the hard-hitting messages to the fore. Henny’s flow has a distinct level of authenticity that conveys an aggressive approach to his subject matter.

Dedication to the grind and discipline to evolve is clearly part of what gives Henny the confidence in his deliveries. As with all hip-hop, at the heart of Rosé, is storytelling and relatability. Every verse drips with a grit that not only feels authentic but also has the poise of someone who fully comes to grips with the subject matter he is rapping about.
