Comatose Red Ivy – “23 JORDAN SALUTE”

Comatose Red Ivy is a transgender rapper, singer and songwriter. She began her music career exactly on October 16 2020 at 5:43am, after being poisoned by, whom she calls, her ‘ex-not-boyfriend’, and left to die. She lives in both the real and fictional worlds, where she surrounded by alter egos, split personalities and a vast number of emotional altering characters who interact with her existence. Her releases, until recently, have all been wrapped inside dark and deeply depressing themes. So it was a major surprise when I first heard the single “23 JORDAN SALUTE” – a tribute track to Michael Jordan and Jordan Legacy.

This is an entirely new Comatose Red Ivy, with a new sound as well. Gone is the deep staggered melancholy flow. In its place is an intense, aggressive and energetic rhyming flair. Comatose Red Ivy feels like she’s on top. Her raps have changed drastically, and the landscape laid down by “23 JORDAN SALUTE” gives new meaning and context to the artist’s verses. There’s an unprecedented air of confidence to her entire performance.

Consistently Comatose Red Ivy has shown himself to be a technically proficient and interesting rapper. However, she used to freestyle her raps on the go. Now she has started writing and actually practicing her songs, and the difference is noticeable.

She’s moved from being profound and emotional to being ruthless and clever in her approach. Her voice is one of the most unique in the rap game. It pierces through the ambience of the beat on “23 JORDAN SALUTE”, giving new meaning and an undiscovered vibe to her rapping.

Comatose Red Ivy is not down in the depressive trenches anymore, she’s someone who got out and gets to look at the world and the people inside of it from a whole new perspective. She’s earned the right to have her say, and “23 JORDAN SALUTE” is indicative of someone who’s fully enjoying that right. Comatose Red Ivy’s flow, delivery, and lyrics are all razor-sharp, and then on top of all that, the beat is pure fire, and sounds like the soundtrack to an epic action movie.

“23 JORDAN SALUTE” explores radical new territory for Comatose Red Ivy, yet she is performing her craft better than she ever has. She absolutely eviscerates the beat and reminds the audience that she can be one of the most potent underground lyricists rapping today. The production quality also really spices up the song to a whole new degree of enjoyment, one that I’m sure will stick with me for a while.

“23 JORDAN SALUTE” is an incredible project, a remarkable improvement upon Comatose Red Ivy’s previous rapping excursions, from a technical point of view, and one of my favorite alternative hip-hop singles of 2022 so far.

The amount of creativity and effort the artist put into this recording, really shines through. Comatose Red Ivy is evolving rapidly before our eyes, growing as a rapper and an artist. This ride will be exciting to watch with each subsequent project she releases from now on.
